The family tree

Whew! That was a close one! This huge maple JUST came down in my yard. I'm just glad it went west and not east. My house is about 15 ft from where I was standing. Take note the trunk of that tree is 4 ft in diameter! Oh well... gotta get out the chainsaw. Anybody need some firewood?

And it was still raining like hell when I took this pic

Oh my GOD! You live close by to me----how did this happen? Was it windy or was it lightening? I don't get how this HUGE tree went down like this. You're lucky it didn't hurt anyone! Wow.

Deb, It was wind. There was a very large piece that came down 2 yrs ago and the rest came down yesterday. Oh, and I just got power back after 17 hrs so I couldn't comment sooner.

Yea, I'm glad too. the kids were in the house at the time. I knew it wouldn't come down on the house side but there is 2 very large limbs still hanging on the house side (top right of the pic) that have to come down now. I'm afraid the loss of balance will bring it down soon. It's too much of a danger. I got a lot of it cleaned up yesterday but I need help with the rest of it. Those limb trunks that are hanging are about 2 & 1/2 ft in dia. There's a lot of weight hanging literaly by a thread there.
Thanks for stopping by and I miss you too.
